Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE)

a fundamentally different approach to healing

Almost everything in medicine works by adding something to the body. Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE) does the opposite. It clears the environment so your body can finally do what it’s always been trying to do: heal.

For patients who have been doing everything right and still not getting better, that difference is everything.

What is TPE?

Your plasma is the liquid your cells swim in. And just like a fishbowl, it doesn’t matter how good the conditions are. If the water is dirty, the fish aren’t going to thrive.

Most of what we do in functional medicine is trying to clean that water: the binders, sauna, hyperbaric oxygen, lymphatic work. All of it is working toward the same goal. It works, but it can take years.

As an FDA-Approved Procedure, TPE does in a few hours what those protocols work toward over a long time. It physically removes your plasma, along with the mold, heavy metals, spike protein, pesticides, and inflammatory debris living in it, and replaces it with a clean solution. Your body doesn’t have to slowly process what’s been accumulating for years. It gets a genuine reset.

How TPE Works

During a session, a volume of your plasma is removed and replaced with clean albumin solution. Here’s what happens next....

N

The burden lifts, quickly. A single session can clear a significant portion of the inflammatory proteins, toxins, and pro-aging factors that have been accumulating in your system. Patients often notice a shift faster than they expect.

N

Your tissues start to follow. Once the plasma is cleaner, your body begins pulling that same debris out of your tissues and into circulation where it can be cleared in subsequent sessions. It’s like finally unclogging a drain that’s been backed up for years.

N

Your cells get better instructions. When the inflammatory noise quiets down, your cells respond. Stem cells that had gone dormant start to wake up. Your body begins doing what it was always designed to do, but just needed the environment to support.

N

Additional benefits include:

  • Clearing the autoantibodies that drive immune dysfunction
  • Supporting neurological clarity and reducing brain inflammation
  • Working alongside your body’s natural detox pathways for mold, heavy metals, and biotoxins

A Natural Partner to Functional Medicine

Functional medicine has always been about addressing root cause and reducing the body’s toxic burden through nutrition, lifestyle, supplementation, movement, and time. TPE is that same philosophy, but compressed. In a single session, you can clear a level of toxic burden that might otherwise take months or years to address through other means alone.

This is not a replacement for the foundational work. It’s what becomes possible when that foundation is already in place.

TPE May Support People Experiencing:

Long COVID and post-viral syndromes with persistent inflammation

Autoimmune conditions (lupus, MS, rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto’s)

Mold illness and biotoxin accumulation

Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS)

Alzheimer’s disease

Complex chronic illness that hasn’t responded to other approaches

Brain fog, cognitive decline, memory loss, and dementia

Chronic fatigue and mitochondrial dysfunction

Neurological symptoms and hyperviscosity

Don’t see your condition listed? That doesn’t mean we can’t help. Reach out and let’s talk.

What to expect during and after TPE

You’ll be comfortably seated or reclined while we work through IV access, similar to a blood draw or infusion. Sessions run 2 to 4 hours, and our team is with you the entire time.

At Olos, every session includes a post-procedure Myers cocktail, glutathione, and vitamin D infusion because how you recover matters as much as the procedure itself.

Most patients are surprised by how calm it feels. And what they report afterward (more energy, less pain, clearer thinking) is what keeps them coming back.

N

Improved energy and decreased fatigue

N

Greater mental clarity and improved problem-solving

N

Better mood and improved sleep

N

Improved speech and cognitive function

N

Better recovery from exercise

N
Less pain

Frequently asked questions

Is TPE safe?

Yes. TPE is an FDA-cleared procedure that has been used in clinical settings for decades, primarily for autoimmune and neurological conditions. At Olos, every session is medically supervised by our team, and we conduct a thorough intake and lab review before recommending it for any patient. As with any medical procedure, there are considerations to discuss — which is exactly why we start with a consultation

How is this different from donating plasma?

When you donate plasma, plasma is removed from your body and not returned. TPE is a therapeutic exchange, meaning the plasma that is removed is replaced with a clean albumin solution. The goal isn’t donation; it’s clearing the accumulated burden in your system and giving your body a cleaner environment to heal in. For a more in-depth explanation, check out my blog post here.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies depending on your condition, your health history, and your goals. Some patients see meaningful results in just a few sessions; others benefit from a more extended protocol. We’ll work with you to determine the right approach based on your labs and how your body responds.

Will insurance cover it?

We are an out-of-network provider. We can provide superbills for potential reimbursement depending on your plan. We recommend checking with your insurance provider about your out-of-network benefits prior to your first session.

Do I have to be an existing Olos patient?

Not necessarily — we welcome new patients who are interested in TPE. That said, because TPE works best as part of a comprehensive care plan, we’ll want to get to know your health history before moving forward. A consultation is always the first step

How do I prepare for a session?

We’ll provide you with detailed preparation instructions ahead of your appointment. In general, arriving well-hydrated, having eaten a nourishing meal, and avoiding alcohol in the days prior are good starting points. Our team will walk you through everything specific to your situation during your consultation.

Can I continue my current medications and supplements?

In most cases, yes — but this is something we review on an individual basis. Please bring a complete list of your current medications and supplements to your consultation so we can make the right recommendations for you.

What happens if TPE isn't right for me?

We’ll tell you — honestly. If after your consultation and lab review we don’t feel TPE is the right fit for where you are in your health journey, we’ll say so and talk through what else might make sense. There’s no pressure here, and there’s always another path forward.

How will we know if it's working?

We track progress through a combination of lab work, symptom reporting, and regular check-ins with your care team. Many patients notice subjective improvements — in energy, clarity, and pain levels — within the first few sessions. Objective markers in your labs help us confirm what your body is telling us.
